3 days exploring the Tre Cime di Lavaredo area

The Dolomites… those majestic mountains, rugged peaks, gorgeous alpine lakes… they have been on my list for quite some time and it was finally time to explore them!

I started off in the area of Tre Cime di Lavaredo also called Drei Zinnen. If you’re planning to visit this area then I hope this post will help you plan your trip there!

Where I stayed

I stayed in Innichen at this gorgeous hotel: Naturhotel Leitlhof |gifted stay| I found it the perfect base to explore all the places I wanted in the area with most spots within 30 to 45 minutes drive.

The wood features of this hotel work so well with it’s surroundings and the mountain view of the rooms is just stunning!

One of the things I loved most was the amazing spa area. So nice to wind down in after a long day in the mountains! The outdoor swimming pool with view of the mountains was my fav but the different saunas (even two cute sauna cabins outdoors) and the eye catching jacuzzi were also some of my go to places. Other features of the spa are: the indoor pool, relax areas, cold plunge pool, steam room, herbal sauna and a Finish sauna. Let me tell you that cold plunge pool feels so good when you just got out of the sauna!

Also, when you’re staying in this hotel you’ll be well taken care of with a breakfast buffet, afternoon snacks and a 5 or 6 course dinner! I was looking forward to dinner every night while hiking in the mountains. It was on my mind constantly haha!

Where to go/places to visit

Lago di Sorapis

This was my first hike in the Dolomites and it did not disappoint! The hike itself is beautiful. Going through the woods followed by some traverses up the mountain and ending at this beautiful high altitude lake. The hike is about 11 km long round trip and is moderate I would say. There are some bits in there where its only 1 meter wide to walk with a very high fall down the mountain. I did found it save though with some cables you can hold on to.

There is a mountain hut at the lake where you can have some drinks. Make sure to check when it opens during the season.

You can park at Passo Tre Croci next to the road. I would suggest going early to make sure you have a spot!

Tre cime di Lavaredo

The whole reason I wanted to stay at this area: Tre Cime di Lavaredo or Drei Zinnen. Most of you have probably seen these 3 giants before in tones of photos that float around the web. They are majestic! But there is way more to see when you come to this place and walk around. You can hike the scenic route along the Tre Cime where you will go past a couple of mountain huts, the Drei Zinnen Seen which are two beautiful lakes and much more! This is around 10 km round trip I would say and it’s a stunning hike.

To get there you can take the road up to Rifugio Auronzo parking area. Down the mountain you will have to pay a fee which in my case was 30 euros to get up the mountain and park right at the base of the Tre Cime. Another option that is free is to walk the 7 km long road up there.

Lago di Braies

The most photographed spot in the Dolomites and maybe even the whole of Italy? Lol.

The place is gorgeous with the boat house and the wooden boats, the color of the water and the mountains surrounding it. But to be honest this place didn’t really do it for me. If this was a hidden spot then yes but the magic kinda dissappears with the tons of people walking around there.

There are a couple of parking spots right at the lake that costs 6 euro’s for 3 hours. If you go later in the afternoon or evening you’ll get a reduced price though.

Lago di Landro

This is one of my “secret” spots that is not so secret haha. It is right next to the road so very easy to find but I didn’t find many people here. I drove past it a couple of times during sunrise and it looked so stunning! On my last morning I decided to quickly drive there and stop this time and it was breathtaking! When the sun touched those peaks it was just pure magic!

The Dolomites have surprised me in the best way possible! I knew it would be great after seeing so many photos and hearing so much about it, but seeing it with my own eyes… I’m blown away!

Definitely coming back very soon since there is still so much to see! Let me know if you end up visiting some of the spots I’ve shown 🙂
